Player Rules

PokeRoamers is a shared world, and it only works if everyone in it can enjoy their adventure. These rules explain what that means in practice.

§1. Respect everyone

  1. 1.1Treat other players and staff the way you would want to be treated. Harassment, bullying, stalking and threats are not allowed.
  2. 1.2No hate speech or discrimination, including on the basis of race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability or age.
  3. 1.3No sexual or sexually suggestive content, and no graphic violence or gore.
  4. 1.4Never share another person’s personal information (real name, address, photos, contact details, social media accounts and the like) without their permission, and never threaten to.
  5. 1.5Never encourage anyone to harm themselves. If someone seems to be in danger, tell staff.
  6. 1.6Everything you name must be family-friendly: trainer names, Pokémon nicknames, guild names, box names and the rival name you choose.
  7. 1.7Names must not impersonate staff or other players, or suggest that you speak for PokeRoamers.
  8. 1.8Misspellings, extra symbols, look-alike characters or spacing used to sneak a word past these rules count as the word itself.

§2. Chat

These rules cover global, local, whisper, party and guild chat.

  1. 2.1No spamming or flooding: don’t repeat the same message, send rows of nonsense, or write whole messages in capital letters.
  2. 2.2No advertising, including other games, servers, communities, products, services and referral or affiliate links.
  3. 2.3No links to malware, phishing, scams or pirated material.
  4. 2.4Never share ROM files, and never say where to download them. Everyone plays with dumps of cartridges they own.
  5. 2.5Protect yourself: don’t post your own address, phone number, passwords, or other sensitive personal details. Chat is seen by people you don’t know.
  6. 2.6Adults must not try to move conversations with minors to private apps or other platforms, ask them for personal details or photos, or pursue any kind of inappropriate relationship. Grooming leads to a permanent ban and is reported to the authorities.
  7. 2.7If someone breaks the rules, report it instead of trying to police them yourself. Arguing back usually makes things worse.
  8. 2.8Don’t argue about warnings or suspensions in public chat. Use the appeal process in §9 instead.

§3. Accounts

  1. 3.1You are responsible for everything that happens on your account.
  2. 3.2Accounts are personal. Don’t share, sell, buy, trade, lend or give them away.
  3. 3.3One person may have at most 3 accounts.
  4. 3.4Extra accounts (“alts”) must not be used to boost the PvP ladder, leaderboards, events or Pokédle, to pass items, Pokémon or money to another account for an unfair advantage, or to get around a suspension.
  5. 3.5Evading a suspension or ban with another account leads to a permanent ban.
  6. 3.6Penalties apply to the person, not just to one account: staff may act on all accounts that person uses.
  7. 3.7Never give anyone your password, emailed codes or recovery codes. Staff will never ask for them, and anyone who does is not staff.

§4. Fair play

  1. 4.1No bots, macros, auto-clickers, scripts or any other automation that plays the game for you.
  2. 4.2Play with the official game client only. No modified or third-party clients, and no reading, altering or forging the traffic between the game and our servers.
  3. 4.3Testing tools such as speed toggles are only for QA testers authorised by staff.
  4. 4.4Found a bug or an exploit? Report it privately with the in-game 🐞 Report button (START → ⚙ Settings → Report), with /bug in chat, or by email. Don’t use it, repeat it, or tell other players how to do it.
  5. 4.5Anything gained through an exploit or cheating will be removed.
  6. 4.6Don’t attack, probe, overload or disrupt the servers, the website or other players’ connections.

§5. Trading, the Market and Pokédle stakes

  1. 5.1Once you agree to a deal or confirm a trade, a Market listing or a Pokédle stake, honour it.
  2. 5.2No scams: no misleading offers, swapping Pokémon or items at the last moment, lying about what you are offering, or impersonating someone trusted.
  3. 5.3Don’t pressure, rush or guilt-trip anyone into a trade or a stake.
  4. 5.4Zero tolerance for real-money trading. Never buy or sell in-game money, Pokémon, items, accounts or services (such as levelling or catching for someone) for real money, gift cards, cryptocurrency, items from other games, or anything else of real-world value. Giveaways that require a payment, donation or subscription count too.
  5. 5.5Staff may reverse trades, or remove Pokémon, items or money obtained through scams, real-money trading or exploits.
  6. 5.6Otherwise, trades and stakes are final. Check what you are getting and what you are giving before you confirm.

§6. PvP and the ladder

  1. 6.1No win-trading: don’t arrange results with other players.
  2. 6.2No boosting your rating by battling your own alts, friends or people in your household who let you win.
  3. 6.3Don’t disconnect on purpose or stall a battle to avoid a loss or to deny your opponent a result.
  4. 6.4Win or lose, be a good sport. Taunting, insulting or harassing opponents is not allowed.
  5. 6.5Staff may reset ratings and remove leaderboard entries earned by breaking these rules. Note that the ladder already ignores very short matches and repeated wins against the same opponent within an hour.

§7. Voice chat

  1. 7.1Everything in §1 and §2 applies to voice chat as well.
  2. 7.2Don’t record, stream or share other people’s voices without their consent.
  3. 7.3Voice chat goes through a relay, so party members never see each other’s IP address — but anything you say can still be heard and remembered, so don’t share personal details.
  4. 7.4If you feel uncomfortable, mute that person or leave the party. You don’t owe anyone an explanation.
  5. 7.5We don’t record voice chat, so report problems by email with as much detail as you can (trainer names, time, what happened).

§8. Videos, streams and content creation

  1. 8.1You are welcome to make videos, streams, guides and screenshots of PokeRoamers, and you may monetise your own content within the rules of the platform you publish on.
  2. 8.2PokeRoamers has no rights to material owned by Nintendo, Creatures Inc., GAME FREAK inc. or The Pokémon Company, and cannot grant you any. Using that material is your own responsibility.
  3. 8.3Never show, link to or explain where to obtain ROM files or dumps.
  4. 8.4Don’t reveal other players’ personal information, and don’t show or explain exploits.
  5. 8.5Only stream or record voice chat if everyone in the party has agreed.
  6. 8.6Don’t present your content as official, or as sponsored or endorsed by PokeRoamers.
  7. 8.7Giving away in-game items in exchange for real money, donations or subscriptions is real-money trading (§5.4).
  8. 8.8Blur or hide bug reports, staff tools and staff pages if they appear on screen.

§9. Enforcement and appeals

  1. 9.1Depending on how serious a rule break is, and on your history, staff may give a warning, suspend your account for a period, or ban it permanently. They may also remove Pokémon, items, money or ratings gained by breaking the rules.
  2. 9.2Serious cases can lead straight to a permanent ban without a warning. These include cheating and bots, real-money trading, stealing accounts, hacking or attacking the service, grooming, illegal content, and ban evasion.
  3. 9.3Every suspension message states the reason and the rule that was broken, for example “Rules §3”.
  4. 9.4To report another player, email legal@pokeroamers.com with their trainer name, what happened, when and where, and screenshots if you have them. There is no in-game button for reporting players.
  5. 9.5To appeal, email legal@pokeroamers.com within 30 days of the decision. Include your trainer name and tell us honestly what happened.
  6. 9.6A member of staff reviews the appeal. The decision after that review is final.
  7. 9.7We may report illegal content and serious threats to the relevant authorities.
